¿Qué es la esencia? / What is the essence?

ENGLISH: What is the essence of a flower? Can the essence be photographed? According to the dictionary, essence is "that which makes something what it is". So if we learn to look deep enough, we can photograph what makes a tree a tree. Essence is sometimes difficult to put into words, but we intuitively recognize it in some things, and so we can photograph them from that perspective. At other times, the essence may simply be what you consider it to be but not so easily understood.

I'd love to be the one who wrote these lines, but I must admit I have extracted them from Brenda Tharp's "Creative Nature & Outdoor photography". I remembered this paragraph while processing this photograph. I won't dare to say I've captured the essence of carnations, but I can affirm this is the way I felt it when I focused on this specific one...

Hi Manolo, this is a very pretty photo, can you please tell me what it is a picture of? I'm going to guess the middle of a flower... am I anywhere close? :-)

Have a wonderful day!

Hi Darlin, yet is indeed a flower, the spanish name is "clavel" and I guess the english word is "carnation", although the other options the dictionary provides are "pink" and "carmination".

Instead of shooting at it from the outside I prefered to look at it's inner side and the way the petals got together with each other (don't worry about the flower, it remained intact, hahaha)

A wonderful day for you as well!

Thank you for translating this, it makes perfect sense to me now and you did a fantastic job of capturing the inner beauty, it's like some people who radiate from within and when that is captured it's amazing. And WHEW you didn't ruin a flower, thank goodness! ;-)
